I haven’t blogged anything here for a long time. But when I read the news yesterday I new there was a blog post coming:
“A German man who lost his way in the dark while wandering around on sea ice off the country’s northern coast was saved by a woman 500 kilometres away who spotted him on a webcam, police said.”
Proving that watching sunsets on webcams isn’t just a nice experience! Of course I was hoping the woman in question was using Eternal Sunset to watch the sunset. I searched through a lot of reports in various newspapers, but none of them mentioned Eternal Sunset.
Still it’s been doing the site some good. A lot of people today seem to be searching for “sunset” and “webcam”, and guess where Google is sending them…
It’s been almost a year since the last post. Eternal Sunset has just been up and running with nothing to report.
But a few weeks ago Johan posted a comment. A poem about Eternal Sunset. I think it shouldn’t be tucked away in the comments, so here it is:
Chasing the Sunset
Slowly the sun falls before my eyes
My memory races
My heart heavy
I feel empty
Chasing the sun before it goes
I lose my mind
But keep my hope

One more glimpse
Before evenings bloom

I blogged about some problems with the Eternal Sunset webhosting about ten days ago. Things escalated a bit after that. My webhost didn’t get their cron server problem under control and just turned the thing off and refused to re-enable it. On top of that they had a completely over the top response to a “security threat” (disabling certain php functions, blocking people from their own domains).
So… I decided to move to another host. I moved Eternal Sunset yesterday and things should be all up and running smoothly again!

Eternal Sunset has been down for the past 2 days. Well, down… the site is up, but not functioning. You may have noticed that the images it is showing are outdated (they’re all from the 2nd or 3rd of October) and that the day/night map is not displaying the correct day and night regions. The reason for all this is that the cron server at my webhosting company has crashed. The cron server executes all automated scripts for caching webcam images etc., so without the cron server working images are not updated anymore.
The hosting company has had some problems with the cron server for a while now, which is why they want to fix it properly this time and not restart it before they have figured out what the problem with it is. Let’s hope it’s soon…
After some requests and to satisfy my own urges to share more about Eternal Sunset, I have added this blog to the site. Here I will post about all things Eternal Sunset (see the intro text on the right for an idea of what that might be).
Ok. That’s enough to kick this thing off. I declare this blog open!
