Last night was what the whole trip to New York was about: the presentation of the 2005 Rhizome commissions at the New Museum Store. It was a very nice evening, with a great turnout, much interest, great sunsets and nice cocktails too.

Late last night Mei and I arrived in New York. We’re here because next week Eternal Sunset will be presented at the New Museum as part of Rhizome’s Ten Year Anniversary Festival. The event will celebrate the works from Rhizome’s 2005 Commissions Program with a one-night installation and presentations by several of the commissioned artists.
With the support of the Dutch Consulate General in New York and the Mondriaan Foundation I was able to come out to New York for this great event. Thanks very much! The images are of the Mondriaan Foundation’s beautiful loft apartment we’re staying in.

I blogged about some problems with the Eternal Sunset webhosting about ten days ago. Things escalated a bit after that. My webhost didn’t get their cron server problem under control and just turned the thing off and refused to re-enable it. On top of that they had a completely over the top response to a “security threat” (disabling certain php functions, blocking people from their own domains).
So… I decided to move to another host. I moved Eternal Sunset yesterday and things should be all up and running smoothly again!

On September 28th, Lútsen (my brother) and I gave a presentation at Dorkbot Eindhoven (see here). Lútsen was in Eindhoven and I joined in from Sydney using Skype and a webcam.
Using a nice Skype add-on called Pamela, I was able to record the audio part of the presentation (including video would have made the file size a bit large), which I have now edited. If you weren’t there, have a listen below.
As the talk was in the Netherlans, the 35 minute presentation is all in Dutch. It’s a 60kb/secs stereo mp3 file, with the sound from me in Sydney on the left channel, and the sound from Eindhoven on the right channel. Enjoy!
Eternal Sunset has been down for the past 2 days. Well, down… the site is up, but not functioning. You may have noticed that the images it is showing are outdated (they’re all from the 2nd or 3rd of October) and that the day/night map is not displaying the correct day and night regions. The reason for all this is that the cron server at my webhosting company has crashed. The cron server executes all automated scripts for caching webcam images etc., so without the cron server working images are not updated anymore.
The hosting company has had some problems with the cron server for a while now, which is why they want to fix it properly this time and not restart it before they have figured out what the problem with it is. Let’s hope it’s soon…
